Acne is a dermatological disease with psychological, physical and social implications that can affect up to 80% of Ecuadorians at some point in their lives. For this reason, we are constantly searching for new treatments that combat Cutibacterium acnes, a bacteria involved in this disease. For this, the use of Morinda citrifolia extract, a plant native to Indonesia and Australia, was proposed. Volunteers with acne were chosen who were willing to use cosmetic products containing this extract for a period of two months in a row, with inspections every two weeks where the number of porphyrins in different areas of the face was quantified, obtaining that at the end of the treatment there were a decrease of 39.69 ± 14.25%; furthermore, 85.71% of the selected volunteers felt improved or very improved at the end of the study. So it can be said that Morinda citrifolia extract has antibacterial properties with very promising results and applications in cosmetics intended to treat imperfections caused by Cutibacterium acnes.
